Who we are

Zoë Parr Kennaugh - Director and Owner

Zoë brings to the team over 14 years of experience in social management with an interdisciplinary background in social and environmental fields and with strong experience in a wide range of sectors. Zoe participated in the Independent Gender Diversity Assessment at Debswana in 2017.  The scope of Zoë’s core experience includes design, planning, implementation of large scale capital projects covering a diverse range of elements. These include risk assessments, baseline studies, management plans and systems, impact assessments, due diligence, audits, stakeholder engagement, social investment programmes, and review of resettlement action plans. Zoë has a sound understanding of the IFC Performance Standards and the Equator Principles, within Southern Africa (including due diligences, audits, gap analyses and ESIAs). Zoë is also a specialist in provisioning Ecosystem Services.

Seopedi Baitsile - Social Consultant

Seopedi Baitsile has an Honours degree in Development Studies from one of Africa’s top research universities and has worked as a social consultant for several years. She has experience of working on the Southern Africa Regional Environment Programme (SAREP), on their monitoring and evaluation programme, reviewing the environmental and social programmes that have been implemented over the last 5 years. In addition, she has contributed significantly to the design of questionnaires and data entry sheet for a quantitative conservation agriculture questionnaire development. Her experience extends to compiling of socio-economic profiles and Social Impact Assessments, recording minutes at stakeholder meetings, facilitation of stakeholder meetings, consultations with key government departments, consultations with projects’ directly affected people, development of baseline traffic survey instruments, design and administration of social surveys, data analysis and proofreading of technical reports.

Maipelo Konopo - Environmental Associate 

Maipelo has been an Environmental Assessment Practitioner for over ten years and is a registered Principal Environmental Assessment Practitioner, with the Botswana Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association (BEAPA 2013:0057). She has skills in team coordination, project management, project scheduling, project budgeting, preparation of technical and financial proposals, as well as preparation of different reports, including Environmental and Social Impact Assessment reports (ESIA)s, and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) for diamond mining projects and the reclamation of diamonds from waste dumps, as well as diamond expansion. She has also prepared Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEAs), ESIAs for brown and greenfield mining projects, infrastructure development, tourism development and management of conservation areas.

 

As an environmental assessment practitioner, she participates in stakeholder planning engagement, stakeholder consultations and feedback and related activities, which has given me the opportunity to interact with different stakeholders including civil society, non-governmental organisations and government officers.

She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, specialising in Zoology and Environmental Science. She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Wildlife, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health from the University of Edinburgh. 

Sue Posnik - Senior Associate 

Sue has been involved in the field of sustainability for the past thirty-five years in various leadership positions. She has managed large teams; both on projects and in various companies and has held responsible positions within professional bodies. She has worked as a Partner for a large international environmental consultancy both from South Africa and the UK. She also developed the structure and approach to sustainability within a national nuclear corporation and directed environmental management in a mid-tier gold mining company in Africa. Her experience spans many disciplines and sectors and she has been recognised in the fields of environmental monitoring and auditing, conflict management, environmental management systems, air quality, waste management, environmental and social impact assessment, stakeholder engagement and closure management. Sue has undertaken projects in mining, large water resources, linear and other infrastructure, power generation and chemical/oil & gas industries. She is very familiar with the E&S international requirements, such as for the World Bank, Equator Principles, IFC standards and their application. She has worked for Equator Principles Financial Institutions advising on projects.

Although based in Botswana we have experience of working throughout Africa including Botswana, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe (indicated in green on the map).


Working on a professional basis in association with locally based environmental and social partners and specialists allows us to bring a range of specialist skills and national knowledge to projects. The partnerships enable local geographical knowledge and experience to be complemented with all necessary and relevant skills required to implement projects successfully.
